7 Great Foods That Speed Up Your Metabolism

Today we're going to be looking at some of the foods that speed up your metabolism enabling you to lose weight or maintain your current weight. Start this today and notice the difference as your body's metabolism improves for the better!

For those that may not know what your metabolism is, it is the amount of energy (or calories) that your body burns to maintain itself.

Food can be a very important factor when you are trying to speed up your metabolism. These simple additions to your diet have several benefits including: suppressing of your appetite, reducing any bloated feelings, detoxing your body and even improving your mood and energy levels.

Here are my 7 top foods that speed up your metabolism:

1. Water - First and foremost we all know your body is made from a fair amount of water - many suggest that the figure is around 70% but this does vary daily depending on your intake and can range from 55% all the way up to 78%. Many people are unable to distinguish the difference between feeling hungry and feeling thirsty so making sure you are drinking water frequently can suppress your appetite and according to studies speed up your metabolism by up to 30% by drinking as little as 2 glasses of water in quick succession.

2. Soup - Is a great food to have at lunch or even as an appetiser. The combination of liquid and solid takes to body longer to digest leaving you fuller for longer. Soup is also great as it comes in many different varieties meaning that it can be incredibly easy to find something which you enjoy eating. A word of caution however - it is better to stay away from canned soups and make the soup with your own fresh ingredients, although it can take more time it is definitely more satisfying and healthier!

3. Apples - A study conducted in America found that eating an apple before each meal caused the participants of the research to feel fuller earlier causing them to eat 15% fewer calories. This is due to the fibre content of apples they again can help to prevent hunger pangs. The natural sweetness in apple also can help prevent cravings for other sweet foods - great for anyone with a sweet tooth!

4. Chicken - Tasty, tasty chicken. Probably my favourite meat - it's great for your body, fairly cheap at your local supermarket and very easy to cook!

5. Chilli Peppers - These are great as they temporarily increase the heart rate by releasing natural stress hormones which help you to burn more calories. You might like to add these to part of a chicken recipe or of part of other meals to cover up some of the spice from the pepper.

6. Green Tea - This is a great way to boost your metabolism in the morning. There are also many beneficial side effects to drinking green tea including: reducing the risk of cancer, it also aids weight loss and the caffeine can help increase your heart rate giving you a small boost in your metabolism.

7. Eggs - For all those that have seen the Rocky films you can see the effect they can have just take a look at Stallone's great physique! On a more serious note eggs are a great source of protein which again helps you satisfy your hunger - some suggest that eggs can be one of the best foods to speed up your metabolism.

It is important to note that food is not the only thing that has an impact on your metabolism. When you eat your foods, your exercise levels and even your emotions can have an impact on your metabolism.

Brazil nuts - a perfect source of protein and all-round nutrition

Speak to any dietician and he or she will definitely add a few brazil nuts (or Brazilian nuts as some call it) to your diet. The latest buzzword in health, Brazilian nuts add important nutrients to your diet, such as protein, essential fats and minerals that are found in no other nut. What's more, these exotic nuts are very easy to come by, what with the availability of Nuts Online on websites like nutsinbulk.com.

So what are brazil nuts?
Brazil Nuts are found inside the fruit of the Brazilian Nut tree that grows rampantly in the Amazon rainforests. They have a soft, ivory-colored nutmeat covered with thin brown skin that is enclosed in a hard, dark brown, roughly-textured shell. Brazil nuts have a sweet, soft, buttery flavor, often compared to coconut and are great to eat by themselves or in desserts. Because of their rich taste, Brazil nuts can often substitute for macadamia nuts and coconut in recipes
Due to their high fat content, they are often pressed for oil, popularly used in cosmetics.

Nutritional benefits of Brazilian nuts
Brazil nuts are 18% protein, 13% carbohydrates, and 69% fat. The fat breakdown is roughly: 25% saturated, 41% monounsaturated and 34% polyunsaturated. Brazilian nuts are also an important source of magnesium and thiamine They are considered to be the richest dietary source of selenium, containing 200 times selenium to that of any other food. Recent research suggests that adequate selenium intake reduces risk of both breast cancer as well as prostate cancer. Therefore many nutrition consultants recommend the consumption of Brazil nuts as a preventive measure.

If Brazilian nuts are so high in fat, why are they good for you?
Many people refrain from eating brazil nuts because of their high fat content. It is important to note that this fat content is present in an unsaturated form, especially as monounsaturated fat. This type of fat actually decreases the level of "bad" LDL cholesterol and helps maintain the desirable levels of "good" HDL cholesterol. Some studies suggest that a diet rich in nuts, vegetables, and fruits may reduce cholesterol levels as much as medication. Moreover, weight gain is never a problem when a balanced diet is supplemented with brazil nuts.
These essential fats are also important in the breaking down and absorption of essential nutrients in the body. The lubrication from these fats also gives your hair and skin a healthy luster, lubricating your joints at the same time.
Having said that, it is important to watch how many of these you eat - about 7 of them at a time should be good enough. Ask your dietician for more information on this.
Brazilian nuts are also a very rich source of protein, especially for vegetarians. They are also rich in potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and Vitamin B.
If you're still not convinced, there are plenty of resources available about these nuts online, which will elicit the benefits of consuming these healthy nuts.

Where to get Brazil nuts
Since Brazil nuts must constitute an important part of your diet, buying nuts in bulk quantities may make sense. This way they will last you all the year round and you will have to pay far less for them, than you would at retail prices. You don't even have to step out of your home to buy them for yourself or your loved ones. You can now get these nuts online, ordered in bulk quantities at wholesale prices.

Delicous flavours and ways to eat popcorn

Some people think that you can only get pop corn from the cinema or at a fairground. You can now make pop corn in the comfort of your own home. You don't even need to splash out on an expensive machine as you can buy pop corn that you make simply by using a microwave.

Delicious pop corn flavours

Pop corn is a tasty snack eaten by millions of people all over the world. Due to its popularity many flavours have been invented. These flavours include strawberry, toffee, salty, apple, butter, cheese and my personal favourite chocolate fudge brownie. You can also get different coloured popcorn now. From orange, red and yellow to purple, green and rainbow. Coloured pop corn is a great idea for children's parties.

Time to eat pop corn!

Pop corn is eaten at many different occasions for example at parties, at the cinema, at home or even at events. Popcorn can also be used for promotional reasons. For example businesses may give free pop corn away to attract customers to come to the store. Another example may be a cinema giving free tubs of popcorn when you buy 4 tickets or more.

Interesting pop corn combinations

Some people choose to combine pop corn and other foods together as a snack. For example one person enjoyed eating popcorn with olives and wine. Others preferred eating pop corn with nuts and syrup. I enjoy melting butter or cheese over plain popcorn.

Pop corn packaging

Pop corn comes in a variety of packages, including tubs, packets, and novelty containers. Popcorn is used by some organisations as parcel packaging because it gives padding and is bio-degradable.

Pop corn is also a low fat snack and is usually suitable for vegetarians but you should check the packaging just in case. Some of the pop corn flavours such as toffee may contain nuts, so again the packaging should always be checked.

Production of frozen foods for export in Thailand

ABSTRACT

The main objective of the dissertation is to examine the feasibility of producing frozen foods for export in Thailand. This was done in two ways. The first involved primary research through online questionnaires. Respondents came from the three target markets; China, US and UK. They also came from Thailand itself. Data was collected through online software known as Statpac and one hundred and twenty one participants took part in the survey.
The Ricardian model strongly emphasizes the issue of comparative advantage. This eventually led to the country's superiority in this product forty years later. (Bouet, 2008)
In the gravity model of international trade, exports between countries must adhere to the economic sizes of the respective countries. Additionally, there ought to be a consideration of the distance between the two countries because these affect the level of success in those countries. The participants need to be either non-frozen food eaters or frozen food consumers since opinions of both sides will be sought in the questionnaire. Since almost everyone falls in the latter two categories, then the target population is rather wide. However, in order to ascertain that the population for the research represents views of the overall population, it is necessary to use an internet medium that is common. In this case the web was chosen as the ideal medium. Surveys show that mailing lists apply to 18% of the world's internet users while 89% of the world's internet users use email and the web is used by 81%. (Jossey-Bass, 2007)

Sample frame development

In order to identify suitable respondents, it was necessary to have access to the most common websites in the respective sites. This was because it is likely that frozen food consumers or people who know about frozen foods are well versed with technology and frequently use the internet. The participants were located by examination of all the common websites in the latter countries. This was done by compiling lists from online companies that did these surveys. The websites that appeared most frequently were chosen as the target websites for locating participants. It should be noted that a pop up window was displayed in the chosen website and users asked to participate in the questionnaire. Consequently, the sampling frame was done by getting the right website to display the pop up window. The possibility of having a well laid out sampling frame was difficult owing to the fact one cannot get access to a master database that has the names of all web users.
Additionally, its per capita expenditure is also quite conducive for business. Additionally, the frozen food sector in the UK is quite large; it is the largest in Europe. Owing to these factors, then Thailand exporters should consider this country for business. It would be advisable to offer minimal products there at first as Thailand tried to make a name for itself in the market. This could be done through partnership agreements between the producer and leading retailers such as Tesco or Asda. On top of that, Thailand exporters should stay away from products that have not been performing well in the UK market. It could start with potato frozen foods and frozen pizza which have done relatively well here
All in all, Thailand's macro-economic climate is very conducive for the export business. On top of that, Thailand's industrial sector has also started producing frozen foods and very minimal modifications will have to be made with regard to expanding the industry to the rest of the world. When choosing export partners, Thailand should give precedence to those countries with a large market for their produce; these are the UK and US. Additionally, it should also consider those countries that have potential for growth in the frozen foods market such as China. Other crucial factors that need to be taken into account include the trade conditions and restriction in those market and consumer attitude towards these commodities. Since the research found that China had almost all these qualities, then it should take first precedence. The US and UK should take second and third precedence respectively also owing to their market size but Thailand should have a unique product offering in order to make it there.

Limitations of the research

The research has found that Thailand is ready to produce frozen food for export. However, there are a number of factors that may interfere with the applicability of the results. For instance, the frozen food sector may change drastically within an identified country and this may hinder good performance there. Also, since the primary research (questionnaire) relied on the internet heavily, then a large portion of the respondents were young people. The opinions of the older generation could affect the outcome of the exporting business in particular. Also, the research eliminated all people who may not have access to the internet. This can hinder the accuracy of the results.

Is Beef Jerky Healthy?

Many times we see the question "Is Beef Jerky healthy?" The simple answer is "Yes". Having said that there are some hings that one must watch for when purchasing commercially made Jerky. I ended up being raised by a health and fitness fanatic and was somehow in a position to escape the obsession myself.

As I became older, I found out that I was preparing to fall in line with the healthiness conscious attitudes that I swore off in my own youth. Of recent times I have become fixated on getting heaps of protein just about every afternoon and Beef Jerky is one good source.

I have a big appetite together with a slow metabolism which means I really want to eat foods that fill me up without making me balloon out. I had never thought of Beef Jerky as being healthy.

I have spent a ridiculous level of money on protein mixes, shakes and bars but I have not found anything that I can continue with for a longer period of time. I have gone through many periods in which I would drink a slim fast high protein shake for breakfast time each and every working day. This got boring pretty quickly.

Until not very long ago, I believed that I hated beef jerky and I would certainly never buy it or test it. Running out of protein options, I began to believe I had better give jerky just one more try before I crossed it out of my list of protein possibilities.

I currently have a sensitive palette and I prefer bland foods to spicy ones. This issue makes enjoying beef jerky a tad difficult but I have found that it can be a great, healthy basis of necessary protein according to my doctor.

I looked for a make of beef jerky that did in any way contain any hydrogenated oils or trans fat. I found a store brand for approximately ten bucks a pound which lasts me about two weeks. When put next to the shakes and mixes, the beef jerky is a substantially more affordable option.

Make sure that you actually read the total listing of ingredients when picking out a brand of beef jerky because if you have been loading up on calories and fat, it sort of defeats the goal in my opinion. It can be difficult to pick up fifty grams of healthy protein just about every day while living on an expense plan and beef jerky might be very expensive. I have had greater success when looking at store brands.

I have been able to trim down on the amount of food I eat by replacing simple sugars or carbohydrates with protein and fiber. Sometimes though, it can be hard to eat a lot of protein and fruits and veggies at the workplace. So a quantity of dried foods such as beef jerky and dehydrated fruits can go a longer way.

If you are seeking to get rid of body weight or just simply eat healthier, start looking for natural products as frequently as possible. You take two steps back when the "health foods" you take in are loaded with fat, preservatives or unnatural ingredients.

Considering all the above, I was determined to discover a way to lower the cost so I thought about making my very own. Doing so meant that I could have a protein product that was all natural and no added stuff. Not only did the end product taste great but it was a bit of fun doing it as well.

I searched the internet and in the end bought a good book on home made beef jerky. There are plenty out there for you to choose from. One warning you finish up making jerky for everyone, so beware and enjoy.

The Carb Rotation Diet by Jayson Hunter is a system designed to help you lose weight fast when you have something big coming up you need to drop a few pounds for.

The Carb Rotation Diet, is the diet plan for you if you have tried to lose weight in the past by counting calories and you just cannot stick to it. The truth is, a lot of the low calorie foods that you are consuming actually make you want to eat more causing you to gain more weight. Many low calories diets are simply too low in calories, its true, if you are eating too few calories for your body it actually causes your metabolism to slow down making it even harder to lose weight.

The Carb Rotation Diet is actually two separate diet plans: one for women and one for men. The actual diet plans for both are very similar, except there are different body fat/weight calculations for men and women. Each low calorie diet plan comes with several bonuses geared towards gender. You won't be getting both plans - only the one you select.

The plan for women is called: The Dramatic Dress Size Reduction Diet

The plan for men is called: Get Rid of My Gut Diet

The Carb Rotation Diet was created by Jason Hunter, a registered dietitian। As soon as I began going over the information, I knew this guy wasn't playing around. He really knows his stuff and the books are dense with nutritional information. You are not only getting a diet plan, you're getting a full education about how to get fit and stay healthy and fit for life.

The main weight loss method for this weekly diet meal plan is called calorie cycling. Basically for 30 days you will be shifting the amount of carbs, protein and fats that you eat for a cycle of three days. Then you keep repeating the same cycle of eating until you reach your goal weight at the end of that time period.

You will shift between a high carb, low carb and no carb daily eating menu. Even though the plan focuses on helping you to shed pounds relatively quickly, you will not be starving yourself to get there. In fact, Jason argues against the starvation method. This is counter-productive to you losing the pounds. You must eat in order for your body to have calories to burn.

Now you are supposed to be able to calculate your starting body weight using a mathematical formulation that involves measuring your body fat, height, weight, etc. Unfortunately, math isn't my strong point, so I just glazed over this section. It would be nice to have an easy way to calculate this information - just plug in the numbers and go. I'll mention that this plan does come with a bonus body fat calculator, but you still have to do the measurements on your own - and you need MS Excel (or the Open Office equivalent) to open it.

What I do like a lot about this diet is that it does show you in detail the foods you should eat in each category: Proteins, Fats, Carbohydrates. There's an Appendix that lists lots of foods that you can eat and what serving size is appropriate. This is great if you need guidance on what kinds of foods to eat. By the way, an optional meal plan guide is available if you want to take the guesswork out of daily menu preparation (highly recommended).

Each plan comes with several bonuses. They are different for men and women. Both will find the bonuses featuring exercise routines with pictures very useful. Even if you hate to exercise, you'll find some of these routines easy and even fun. I do think the bonuses for men are a wee bit better because of the motivational material.

All in all, this is a great, no nonsense diet plan for both men and women looking to lose 10 to 25 pounds in 30 to 60 days. The Carb Rotation Diet will get you more excited about losing weight because you will see REAL results on the scale and in the fit of your clothing sooner than you ever thought before.

The major tsunami

The major tsunami of December 26, 2004 that hit many South Asian countries bordering the Bay of
Bengal severely devastated the coastal regions of Sri Lanka. A key concern is the nature and extent
of the tsunami impact on the water supply and, in more general, the water resources of these areas.
In the coastal areas of Eastern Sri Lanka, the majority of the population, which is rural or semi-urban,
is relying on groundwater for their domestic and agricultural activities, most predominantly through
traditional private shallow open dug wells in the sandy aquifers. As the tsunami destroyed practically
all wells within the reach of the flood waves, access to freshwater for these people was suddenly cut
off and interim alternatives had to be sought urgently in the form of freshwater trucked in from
unaffected areas.
Soon after the tsunami, massive efforts to clean the wells were initiated from a range of different
actors in an attempt to rapidly return the water supply to normal conditions, or at least ameliorate the
immediate impacts of the salinization of the wells. Based on indications that these efforts were uncoordinated,
inadequate, inefficient and at the extreme harmful to the water quality and the well
functioning, IWMI set in at various levels to try and guide and coordinate these efforts.
With the aim to assess and document the extent of the damages and the immediate and
intermediate term impacts of the tsunami on groundwater and associated water supply, a field monitoring
program was initiated in March 2005 (2.5 months after the tsunami) in three areas on the east coast
(Kallady, Kaluthavalai, and Oluvil, in Batticaloa and Ampara District). A total of approximately 150 wells
were selected within approx. 2 km distance from the coastline covering both affected and non-affected
wells. Salinity, groundwater level, turbidity, and mosquito vector breeding were monitored on a regular
basis, with from 20 to 40 days interval. In addition, salinity levels in sea and lagoon water were
measured. Results indicate that 39% of the wells had been flooded by the tsunami, with the flooding
being more severe in the two most northern sites (49% in both Kallady and Kaluthavalai), as compared
to the last site (21% in Oluvil). This pattern could be explained by the way the waves had come in and
had been received by the land complex.
Salinity levels in flooded wells decreased significantly from the estimated levels at the time of the
tsunami (29,400 μS/cm) till the start of the monitoring (3200 μS/cm). This can be explained by the rainfall
that occurred shortly after the tsunami and the rapid dissipation and mixing of intruding seawater with
pre-tsunami fresh groundwater and potentially the well cleaning effects. As time passed, average salinity
levels in flooded wells decreased only slowly, until the end of the study period (middle of July), when
the average salinity was 2600 μS/cm. The slower decrease can be attributed to the unset of the dry
season and the slower mixing and dissipation mechanisms as concentration gradients decreased. Nonflooded
wells showed an opposite trend with salinity levels slightly increasing during the dry season (from
890 to 1090 μS/cm), a generally encountered phenomenon. Hence, seven months after the tsunami,
flooded wells had higher average salinity level than background, non-flooded wells, indicating that the
groundwater still had not recovered fully from the tsunami, and that at least one more rainy season was
required to flush the system and restore the aquifers to pre-tsunami conditions.
Based on a drinking water salinity acceptance threshold derived from the actual use of the wells,
it was found that a large fraction of the flooded wells (between 67 and 100% in the three sites), and
even wells not flooded (between 17 and 50%) were not suitable for drinking at the end of the study
period. This indicates that people in the areas had become accustomed to the alternative water sources
viii
supplied by various relief organizations, because background, non-flooded wells did not show increased
salinity relative to pre-tsunami conditions and people generally were relying on the well supply for drinking
water prior to the tsunami.
Guidelines for well cleaning and groundwater protection and general awareness raising and
information sharing was a significant part of the project, and it is believed that the activities involved had
an impact on the approach to well cleaning in the affected areas, by drawing attention to the potential
problems involved, by linking various actors and by disseminating the knowledge and results generated
in the project.
Organization of the Report
The introductory chapter is followed by Chapter 2 describing the potential impacts of the tsunami
on groundwater, issues related to cleaning of wells in affected areas and a description of the
geographical, demographic, and water use setting on the east coast as well as some key
figures for the overall devastation caused in these areas. Chapter 3 describes the objectives
of the present study, project implementation and the research methodology. The results of the
well rehabilitation support and the monitoring program are given in Chapter 4 and finally, Chapter
5 synthesizes the findings and extracts the conclusions and recommendations for further work.

Tsunamis: Facts About Killer Waves

Within hours killer waves radiating from the epicenter slammed into the coastline of 11 Indian Ocean countries, snatching people out to sea, drowning others in their homes or on beaches, and demolishing property from Africa to Thailand.

Tsunamis have been relatively rare in the Indian Ocean. They are most prevalent in the Pacific. But every ocean has generated the scourges. Many countries are at risk.

In the wake of the Christmas weekend tsunami in the Indian Ocean, one of the worst disasters in history, National Geographic News examines the killer waves' causes and warning signs—information that can be a lifesaver in a tsunami zone.

• A tsunami is a series of great sea waves caused by an underwater earthquake, landslide, or volcanic eruption. More rarely, a tsunami can be generated by a giant meteor impact with the ocean.

Scientists have found traces of an asteroid-collision event that they say would have created a giant tsunami that swept around the Earth several times, inundating everything except the mountains 3.5 billion years ago. The coastline of the continents was changed drastically and almost all life on land was exterminated.
