Tsunami Victim Help
Due to a world full of fantastic people who have all been contributing to the help of the Samoan people that were affected by the Tsunami on September 29, package after package of cloths, cooking items and money have been received and delivered to the people in need. All efforts have been done to deliver everything as soon as possible after it came in. Careful planning is needed and essential to get the right items for families and villages in the affected areas.
So far, 3000 Tala has been received that will be used for kerosene stoves, plates, pots and pans. The village of Saanapu which was affected by the tsunami has been selected for the aid that recently was received. The main focus of most of the tsunami help has been on the South East coast as it was the area that was affected most although many other places like Saanapu on the South West coast were badly damaged as well.
All the families that are being helped are sincerely thankful to people showing a big heart and for making a difference in the affected peoples lives. With aid help from many countries, the government of Samoa has put together a help plan for the ones that lost everything. These people will get a new small house built for their family. The total cost for each house will be about 7000 US Dollar. Electricity has already been provided by the government but water is still an serious issue.
Most families that moved from the beach up the hills have lost the access to the sea with fresh fish. The crops that are grown inland still have many months to go before the time of harvest. Although many new inconveniences have risen, people will not come back to the beach so soon again, if ever.
